Amazon changes paperback royalties

For some unexplained reason, Amazon has decided to change its royalty rate for print books priced below $9.99 from 60% to 50%, starting June 10th. Further unexplained is why this would cause me to earn absolutely no royalties for those print books. Percentages seemed pretty simple to me, but apparently Amazon has a different method of calculating them than what I learned in school. Regardless, I've decided I might as well increase the prices of all my print books to $9.99. The price of my Kindle books will remain at 99 cents, unless/until Amazon decides to play silly buggers with that as well.

Here's why I'm telling you this. I know almost everybody who's bought my books through Amazon has bought the Kindle versions. Fine by me. However, if you decide to buy them in paperback, DO NOT buy them through Amazon! You can get them directly from me by ordering through my Etsy shop, Hrtsmom's Jewelry Etc. My prices for them there are based on what I have to pay Amazon for my author copies, which has always been considerably cheaper than Amazon's price for regular customers. And the "royalty" I earn from direct sales is higher than what Amazon will pay me, so we both win.

Maybe things will go back to normal after Captain Tariffs is out of office. Maybe not. Regardless, I would rather be fair to my readers. I care about you way more than Amazon does.
