2/27 Friday

Listening to: It’s Storytime with Wil Wheaton, and once again trying to get up the nerve to ask Wil if he’d ever consider reading a story by a self-published author. I’m sure I’m not the first one to think about it. Probably more than one person already has. I probably never will.

Finished: Folktales from India, edited by A.K. Ramanujan. 5 stars; book #14 for the year. This was one of the books I got during my first visit to Words to Live By. I think I was expecting some new and unsual-to-me stories, for new inspiration. It was equal parts disappointing and reassuring to find that the majority of the stories were versions of what I found in my last jaunt through Grimms’. Sure, the superficial details were different. But the themes, tropes, and characters were mostly familiar. In fact there are even notes at the end, talking about the “type” of each story in the book, and what other languages have the same type of story. I’ll be hanging on to this book, at least for one more read.

I just realized: 28 years ago today, I was in labor for the first time. Weirdly the thing I still remember most about that Friday evening was trying and failing to concentrate on an episode of Nash Bridges. I don’t remember what episode, but I know I never saw the whole thing.
