Starting The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Hope this will break my bad Kindle streak.

It’s seriously tempting to just take this whole week off from doing anything at all productive. But as I already know I’m going to have to bake at least one loaf of bread before Thursday, and I already did some work on both books yesterday and dusted in my bedroom today, I might as well just carry on as usual. sigh. I also made two batches of beads on Friday, but that was last week, of course.

I caught up with my journal reading and consolidating on Friday or Saturday night. Now I’m reading 2024 all the way through. Ah, those were the days! I sometimes wonder how much of my life I’d remember if I didn’t write some of it down. My memory is absolute crap these days. For example, I had completely forgotten about the Jack Skellington sweater I bought last year, even though it was hanging in my closet, til somebody’s Bluesky post about an ugly Christmas sweater a couple weeks ago reminded me. I don’t know whether it’s too many demands on my attention or just plain middle-aged brain shrinkage. Probably half-and-half.

I had an urge to start keeping a book diary again. Nothing as fancy as the one Heather gave me a few years back. Just a list of books I start reading, notes on whether I finish them or why I don’t, ratings. Could be fun to look back at in the future, if I don’t forget to keep up.

I filled up the notebook I was working on Called in. It wasn’t a big notebook; my word count at the end was a little over 12k. But it always gives me a little sense of accomplishment to fill up a notebook. Now I “only” have three empty ones left on my pile, not including the album-cover ones Cheryl gave me, which will be journal books and then scrapbooks (at least that’s my plan). I may have to go back to Scribe Delivery. Assuming it still exists.

I hope the weather’s this nice tomorrow. This morning when I woke up it was 19°, which I think is warmer than yesterday’s high. I skipped my workout yesterday, which would have been the PT exercises, because my left knee feels like I twisted it. I don’t know when that happened, unless it was when I accidentally stepped on Lily the other day (it was dim in the hall and I wasn’t looking where I was going). I just hope it will be okay for riding the bike.

I might also have hurt myself on Thursday during grocery shopping. Remember the predicted storm? Well, it didn’t snow very much but oh my Bob the wind! I read later that they measured 67 mph gusts at the airport that day. Visibility on the roads was horrible. And of course the Walmart parking lot is one of the worst places in town when it’s windy, with all that open space around it. I literally almost got blown off my feet when I was returning the carts afterward. Ugly weather.

I think I’ve gotten all the Christmas presents I ordered now. I’m not 100% sure, because I wrote out a list of everything I ordered and who was getting it, then put it away in a place where nobody would find it. Including me. The next job is wrapping everything, of course, which I hate.

I’ve actually been thinking about handing my Sunshine Family dolls down to Alyssa, but I think I’m going to wait til after Christmas for that. Maybe til summer. I have to convince her that they should be kept here; I don’t want her losing the smaller pieces that are still left.

That red squirrel who visits the feeder so frequently has gotten quite fat.
